{"id":108802,"date":"2025-05-13T10:32:32","date_gmt":"2025-05-13T14:32:32","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/cdt.org\/?post_type=insight&#038;p=108802"},"modified":"2025-05-13T11:28:16","modified_gmt":"2025-05-13T15:28:16","slug":"cdt-outlines-dangers-of-ssa-about-face-blocking-vulnerable-beneficiaries-from-accessing-critical-benefits","status":"publish","type":"insight","link":"https:\/\/cdt.org\/insights\/cdt-outlines-dangers-of-ssa-about-face-blocking-vulnerable-beneficiaries-from-accessing-critical-benefits\/","title":{"rendered":"CDT Submits Comments Outlining Dangers of SSA About-Face Blocking Vulnerable Beneficiaries from Accessing Critical Benefits"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p>Despite initially <a href=\"https:\/\/blog.ssa.gov\/social-security-updates-recently-announced-identity-proofing-requirements\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">heeding an outpouring of concerns<\/a>, many around accessibility for disabled beneficiaries, the Social Security Administration (SSA) appears to be <a href=\"https:\/\/www.federalregister.gov\/documents\/2025\/04\/18\/2025-06773\/agency-information-collection-activities-new-emergency-request\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">forging ahead<\/a> with plans to require in-person visits or access to an online account to complete certain phone-based transactions. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>This about-face will block some of SSA\u2019s most vulnerable beneficiaries from accessing critical benefits, including disabled and\/or older people who disproportionately rely on telephone services.
